NeuroMuscular Therapy
Neuromuscular therapy uses specific techniques that take advantage of the body's reflexes to ease tension. When muscles get stressed, fatigued or over-worked their blood flow is severely limited which can lead to tender or painful trigger points. With the right amount of pressure in the right spot, the muscle will reflexively yield to that pressure and release the tension. This release allows fresh, nutrient-rich blood into the area and restores the muscles ability to function properly and without pain.
Swedish Massage
Swedish Massage is the most commonly known type of massage. Some of the techniques are for relaxation and some are for muscle stimulation. Relaxing moves include long, firm, but gentle strokes and kneading of the muscles. Stimulating techniques include friction, vibration and tapping. I mainly use Swedish massage moves to spread oil, to palpate and to warm-up and prepare tissues for more intense work, such as NeuroMuscular therapy or deep tissue massage.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue Massage does not simply mean more pressure and more pain. The focus of this massage is to target the deep fascia and connective tissue inside and surrounding the muscles. Think of the deep fascia as a three-dimensional web of connective tissue surrounding all the muscles. This web can form adhesions that can restrict movement and limit proper muscle function. Deep tissue massage focuses on releasing those adhesions. It does not have to be painful to get results, but often the fascial restrictions can be quite tender to have manipulated.
Hot Stone Massage
Hot Stone Massage is exactly what it sounds like. I take hot stones and use them as tools to massage your muscles. The penetrating heat is highly relaxing and the hardness of the stones make for a very deep massage. I often use the stones in conjunction with other deep techniques to ease the discomforts of very intense work. The stones are heated in water to 120 degrees and are thoroughly cleaned after each use. If you think you'd like to have a hot stone massage or incorporate them into your session please let me know before you arrive for your massage so I can have them warm when you arrive.
Pregnancy Massage
Pregnancy Massage is very specific to the needs of expecting mother. First of all, the positioning of the mother is such that it is comfortable and safe for the both her and the baby. Stress relief and relaxation are, of course, a priority, along with specific techniques to relieve pregnancy related pains, such as lower back issues, cramps, spasms, and stress on weight-bearing joints. The child-bearing year can be very demanding on the body and pregnancy massage can help the body cope with the drastic changes.
Geriatric Massage
Geriatric Massage techniques are specific to the aging bodies or senior citizens. Older people can be fragile and special care is needed to not hurt them.
